Closing Reception in the Kimball Education Gallery
Friday, July 27, 6:00-8:45 pm

Celebrate the residency of Beth Grossman with light refreshments, music
and the Friday Night Program at the de Young.

Come visit Beth's artist's studio in the Kimball Education Gallery and work with her
on an interactive project, Tracing History. Her residency provides an opportunity to
explore history as it is told through the de Young Museum's collection. You are
invited to join museum visitors in creating a narrative mural using images from the
collection.

Beth's new installation, The Copper Chronicles, was created for this residency and
was inspired by curios from the California Midwinter Fair of 1894. These new relief
sculptures contemporize history, using ancient metal working techniques in copper,
and echo the defining material of the new building.

Stop by the gallery to participate in creative activities for all ages.

Entrance to the Artist Residency Studio is free of charge.
Museum entrance is $10.00 adults/ $7.00 seniors and students.

The Bureau of Atmospheric Anecdata
at the International Nature Art Forum 2007 in Licherode, Germany

Interactive environmental art project with artists, Beth Grossman
Christine Baeumler and Cheryl Wilgren Clyne in Alheim/Licherode, Germany, August 3-
12, 2007
We will be setting up a portable "Weather Station" in several small German towns
and to attract and invite local residents, both young and old. Residents will be
interviewed about their memories and folklore of winter. Through these anecdotes and
historical depictions, we will investigate and creatively document how the seasons
have been altered by climate change, as they have in the US, and how these changes
have been experienced by the inhabitants? Ironically, we would be conjuring memories
of winter during the height of summer.

Works of Art will be created that would poetically reflect our experience and
inspiration from working with the German communities and their diverse stories.
These works of art will include an on site video projection performance and
eventually a catalog of collected photos and stories. Our intention is to heighten
awareness of our relationship with nature, which increases our connection to the
land and develops our desires to care for it. The «artwork» is not only a final art
piece, but the value of the interactions and insights gained by community engagement
and exchange.

This work in Germany will serve as a pilot project for other performances and
anecdata collecting events.

The Bureau of Atmospheric Anecdata will be at the Nash Gallery at the University of
Minnesota

September 4 - October 4, 2007.
Public reception: Friday, September 7, 6:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am - 7 pm.

The Nash Gallery is located at 405 21st Avenue South in the Regis Center for Art,
the heart of the University of Minnesota's West Bank Arts Quarter. Parking is
available in the 21st Avenue Ramp.

All About Books: Artists' Books

Group exhibit: March 1 - August 1, 2007
BJE Jewish Community Library | Main Location
1835 Ellis Street, San Francisco, CA 415.567.3327

The BJE Jewish Community Library celebrates its 30th year with the exhibition All
About Books. Text has always been central to Jewish history and culture, so much so
that the Jews have been called the People of the Book. In this exhibit,
participating artists expand that idea to include all manner of books: hand made
books, photo books, sketchbooks, accordion books, and art about books or about the
written word.
